what is resistance?

inductive reactance describes the resistance of an inductor to ac current. when an ac voltage is applied to an inductor, an electromotive force (emf) is generated, creating a magnetic field.

this magnetic field stores energy in the form of electromagnetic flux. as the direction of the alternating current changes, the magnetic field also changes, producing a back electromotive force that is opposite to the current.
