cylindrical grinding cylindrical grinding is mainly performed on a cylindrical grinding machine to grind the outer cylinder, outer cone surface and shaft shoulder end surface of shaft workpieces. during the grinding process, the workpiece rotates at low speed. if the workpiece performs longitudinal reciprocating motion at the same time, and the grinding wheel feeds laterally relative to the workpiece after each single or double stroke of the longitudinal movement, it is called the longitudinal grinding method. if the width of the grinding wheel is greater than the length of the surface to be ground, the workpiece does not move longitudinally during the grinding process, but the grinding wheel continuously feeds transversely relative to the workpiece, which is called plunge grinding. generally speaking, the plunge grinding method is more effective than the longitudinal grinding method. if the grinding wheel is dressed to have a profiled surface, plunge grinding can machine the profiled outer surface.
